You see construction of new homes everywhere, but are they even selling? I can tell you what I think and the answer to that one is no. These homebuilders might be hanging on to these homes for some time. Even the older homes that realtors are trying to get you to buy might have those homes for some time because, in our current economic state and the thousands who are losing their jobs, people just don't have the money to buy these. Either the asking price is too much or they might be losing their own homes to foreclosure.
I don't see how these homebuilders can afford to keep a hold of these homes for so long without going into so much debt that they don't go broke. If you go driving down the new roads that they have put in, you will find all kinds of new homes that are just finished. There might be several on down the road that are under construction by this same builder. There are so many that it looks like this market should look like it's on fire, but I say that it's up in smoke.
With the number of older homes for sale and no jobs to speak of, this small town called Waverley in Tennessee had better start looking to bring in new business or this town will die. People move out of here all the time because there aren't any jobs. We have a good number of kids in our schools, but most of them leave this area after graduation to get those bigger and better jobs.
The older generation just can't find work so that they can make an honest living. If you aren't good at fixing something, you can always find someone that is but there are too many of them, and they might not be able to get enough business to stay going. We have so many small business buildings that might have turned over to different owners four times or the building is just standing empty.
This tells me that our town is going nowhere and eventually will stop all together, and this town will lose in more ways than one. We have a nice place to live; it is quiet and usually pretty safe to live in. We have a pretty big school, all kinds of churches, several banks and a lot of fast food restaurants and a few regular restaurants with several gas stations, but what we don't have are factory jobs.
