Options for Spa Covers and the Value of Having One

There are a lot of different materials that spa covers can be constructed of, and the most common material is vinyl. There are also fiberglass lids that are very sturdy and strong, and for those of us lucky enough to enjoy great weather all year round, there are thinner and cheaper plastic covers that are simply draped over the water in the hot tub.

Vinyl hot tub lids work well as a basic general cover, but they do have a few negative aspects to them, too. Even though they are effective at keeping debris like dirt, leaves, and sticks from entering the water, they are not very durable. They also do keep the water in the tub insulated and warm, but over time they deteriorate, especially when they are left exposed to the sun. Even though vinyl lids are strong, they dont have as much strength as an aluminum or wooden one. Since vinyl lids are filled with foam, they also become waterlogged over time and must be replaced.

Wooden spa covers are very popular because they look nice and they are strong. They do an o.k. job at insulating the water, but not as good of a job as the foam filled vinyl covers. Since these lids are made of natural wood, they are of course vulnerable to the elements of nature and the weather. Wooden hot tub lids are often more expensive than the other kinds of lids, too.

Aluminum spa covers are very durable, and they are actually some of the strongest lids. The downside to the aluminum ones is that they are much more expensive than the other kinds of lids. They are a popular choice for areas that are in constant sunlight exposure. Many people install locking systems on their hot tubs, and it is often recommended that aluminum lids be used to go along with those locks.

Having spa covers is a necessity. They serve four major purposes. They keep your hot tub water from getting filled with bugs, leaves, sticks, dirt, and other things. Hot tub lids also work as a safety device that is vitally important for anyone to use who has small children or pets in the home or even in the neighborhood that could potentially fall in. Hot tub lids slow down the evaporation that occurs, which means that you do not have to replace lost water as often. This also means that youll save a lot of money on water bills. The lids keep the heat in the tub and the cold out of the tub, which keep your heating bills lower. Finally, the spa covers protect hot tub outsides (the shell) from cracking over time with exposure from the sun.
